These products are forced to generate the RS232 signals from the USB port +5V power supply line.

The generated voltages fully confirm to the RS232 requirements of +/-5V for output signals, and in fact are at +/-7V level.
Receivers (i.e. signal inputs) must accept voltages down to +/-3V signal level, otherwise those do not follow the RS232 specifications.
