I want to use roaming with NetCom WLAN, what do I need?

There is nothing special to configure for use of roaming.

However pay attention to the WLAN hardware present in your NetCom WLAN. You see the model as 'Chipset' in the Wireless Parameters, shown in the Web interface for configuration.

First NetCom WLAN have been produced using an RT2560 card. Today the NetCom 123 WLAN and 423 WLAN are manufactured using the new RT2561T model. These two models behave different when roaming is required.

  • RT2560 cards support WEP and WPA-PSK/TKIP encryption. They provide roaming when the encryption is WEP, or no encryption at all.
  • RT2561T additionally support encryption by WPA2-PSK/AES. They provide roaming not only using WEP, but WPA and WPA2 encryption as well.

So check if you haveĀ  RT2561T, or order this as an added option for your old NetCom WLAN.
